My last week home

26 June 2014

I can't believe that I only have one more week off with my nugget! The "maternity leave" in this country is a joke, but that's a post for another day. I wish I could stay home just a teeny bit longer, but we have bills to pay! So, I plan on making the most of this week and tiring us both out.

This is my bucket list :)

1. Snuggle Gracie as much as possible.
2. Take Gracie to the beach for the very first time!
3. Pick out five adorable outfits for the both of us!
4. Pack bags for my mom's!
5. Pump, pump and pump some more! Make lactation cookies, buy more fenugreek and drink more Gatorade!
6. Attempt to find a formula for her as a backup option in case #5 doesn't work so well.
7. Freezer meals!
8. Snuggle Gracie some more. Dance around the kitchen with her.
9. Go for walks.
10. Order her newborn prints! I have to have photos to put in my office :)
11. Convince Keith to hire a house cleaner :)

And that's it! Keeping my week focused on what is important. Grace is growing SO fast and changing every day. I'm working on just soaking in every snuggle I can!

I mean seriously, who could resist this face?!

Father's Day 2014

23 June 2014

One of the things that I love most about having a child is celebrating holidays. I'm so excited to celebrate every one for the first time with her!

Father's Day takes on a whole new meaning now that Grace is here! We spent the day having a cookout with Keith's dad and later the three of us are going to attempt going to dinner for the first time!

Becoming a mom has been amazing. But seeing my husband become a father is so special. The way he looks at her, and holds her and just loves on her makes my heart melt. I am really looking forward to many more special moments with our new little family :)

Happy First Father's Day babe!

Snapshots from our Weekend

Can I say "weekend" when the days of the week don't matter right now? Sometimes the only way I know what "day" it is, is if Keith is home or not :)

After being alone for three days last week, I was so looking forward to our family time together!

They were both staring at Keith, excited he was home :)

She loves her daddy!!

We spent the whole weekend visiting friends. Now that Gracie is doing much better and isn't feeling awful all the time, it's getting easier to get out of the house.

Snuggling with KerriAnne

Hanging with her "cousin" Cali

Cuddling with her auntie Jessy

An early morning snuggle with my mini :) we felt pretty strongly about Gracie not sleeping in bed with us, and she really doesn't -- but Sunday morning I was beyond exhausted, and knew she would be up in 30 minutes -- so I let her lay next to me :)

Sunday we drove to NH while Keith golfed so that Gracie could meet out friends Naomi and Frank. Gunner even tagged along for the trip!

Sunday night was play time with Gunner and Gracie! She was exhausted after her long weekend and was asleep by 8:30!

I hope y'all had a good weekend!

Five on Friday

20 June 2014

It's been a little bit since I've had time to actually sit down and blog, and I love Five on Friday, I figured I would try to squeeze a post in!

1. Getting back into shape

One thing about being home all day, is while I'm sitting on the couch nursing or rocking a sleeping baby, I watch a lot of TV. The other day I saw an infomercial for the Ten Minute Trainer and before I knew it, 30 minutes had gone by and I was digging my credit card out of my wallet to order!

I've been pretty fortunate that I was able to lose a lot of the baby weight by breastfeeding, but I definitely have a little bit to go still and I want to start working out. I was cleared to work out this week, so the timing of this is perfect. And if I can't find ten minutes in my day to work out ... well, I don't know what to say :) Even Keith is excited about this purchase! I'll be sure to let y'all know how it goes!

2. A good Loft Sale

I can't believe I'm going back to work in two weeks! (More on that below!) And since I haven't quite lost the baby weight (see number one!) I needed a few new things to wear. I'm getting sick of yoga capris and tank tops. Who would have thought I'd ever say that? In any case, Loft is having an awesome sale right now ... 40% off everything!

Stripe Dress, originally $49.50

Stripe Shirt, originally $39.50

Black Shorts, originally $39.50
I also purchased this dress, these shorts, and this button up top. Oh and this sweater. Shh, please don't tell my husband! You can get 40% off through today with code ONBOARD

3. My job situation

You may remember my post back at the end of April on how sure I was that I would not be returning to my current job. Fast forward two months later, and I AM going back. I was kind of surprised at how much I missed my job, and my co-workers. Keith and I took the time to talk it out and see if it felt right, and then I reached out to my boss. She of course wanted to know when I was coming back, and I told her that there were things that needed to change and things her and I needed to talk about before I made any decisions. Well, after several talks back and forth, I agreed to return to work July 7. I feel confident and happy in my decision, and even though the thought of putting her in daycare kills me, I know this job is the right one for me.

4. Gracie is 6 weeks

Love my chunky nugget!

Always so serious!
I truly cannot believe she is six weeks old already ... I mean, where does the time go?? She is so much more alert now, and is starting to really "see" her surroundings. And she's mesmerized by everything! She finally started giving us real smiles and coo's and talks all the time. I'm loving this age!!

5. On the market

Our house is on the market again! We are really hoping that it will sell since the weather is nicer, inventory is low and we are in a phenomenal school district. We aren't sure yet where we are going (LOL) but I'm looking forward to sharing more about this exciting process!!

And on that note ... she's awake and "talking" to me, so I'm off for some baby snuggles!

I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!

ONE month!

04 June 2014

I cannot believe that Gracie is already ONE month old! These last few weeks have absolutely flown by ... all the days seemed to roll right into the next ... lots of sleepless nights, 3am crying fits, early morning snuggles and conversations about poop!

It blows my mind how much our life has been turned upside down, but in the best way possible. The first two weeks were a doozy, but by week three we finally started to get a handle on things and things are slowly getting easier!

SLEEP: Gracie is not the soundest, deepest sleeper. In those first few weeks it would take us two or three tries before she was finally asleep for a nap. We often find ourselves glued to the monitor because just when you think she's OUT, those little eyes pop open! In week three we discovered the Swaddle Me sleeper. Oh.my.gosh. This thing seriously saved us. It's the only way she will sleep now, and she sleeps much more soundly when she can't flail her arms and whack herself in the face :) She also make SO much noise in her sleep! She actually cries and screams in her sleep, and you go in to check on her and she's sound asleep. She does this for a good 30 minutes before she actually wakes up. Not so fun at 2:45am when I could really use that extra 30 minutes of sleep! Some days she naps all day, other days not at all. I am doing my best to nap when she does, but sometimes I just need a shower and a bowl of cereal!

We would not have survived without her Rock'n'Play ... she loves to sleep here!

Her scrunched up sleeping face :)

EATING: We are still nursing, but also supplementing with formula. This kid can EAT. Sadly, my milk supply just isn't enough for her and she's not the most efficient nurser lol. She likes to comfort nurse and then fall asleep. Then we put her down thinking she is OUT, and ten minutes later she is up wailing her head off because she's starving! I pump several times a day, in order to be able to give her a bottle of breast milk, but also I'm trying to build up a stash of frozen milk for when I go back to work. She is also (as of this week) getting one ounce of prune juice diluted with water because she has really bad gas issues :/ My poor baby ... she gets so worked up because her belly is full of bubbles and it takes her hours to work them out. The prune juice seems to be helping, although it isn't a miracle fix, so we just have to wait for her to outgrow this.

TEMPERAMENT: Wellllll .... not the happiest baby that's for sure! She was born crying and pouting, with her lower lip quivering, so that was our first sign haha! She always seems to be skeptical and confused, making the cutest little faces at us. She fusses a lot, but I think only because of her tummy issues. When she's fed, dry and bubble-free she is very content. The last few days she's started to coo at us, and make the cutest noises. She will hang out in her Boppy lounger and just look around, look at us and babble away :) I swear I even saw the tiniest hint of a smile the other day!

These are her content faces ... I'll spare you the crying ones :)

FIRSTS/MILESTONES: Her first holiday was Memorial Day. Meeting one of her great-grandmothers. Peed on her daddy, not once -- but twice! First visit to the park. Met the midwife that delivered her. First bath (she loves it!)

Bath time!

First walk with Gunner!

Our first solo car ride - going to the pediatrician!

All dressed up in red, white & blue for Memorial Day

Cooing at her great-grandma

NICKNAMES: Gracie, Gracie-girl, Gracie-bird, Nugget, Grace K, GK, Lovebug

My thoughts on motherhood: Life changing. Amazing. Exhausting. I had wanted to be a mama my whole life and I waited 30 years to finally have this little girl. And it's the hardest and best thing we've ever done. I thought I had some idea of what to expect, but until they placed her on my chest -- I realized I had NO clue. Everything was a learning process, for all of us - for her and for me! But together, we've gotten through each day. I've learned to take things one day at a time. This little girl has taught me patience. She has taught me what unconditional love really is. I worry about so many things that I never did before. She has made me more aware of life. Instead of rushing so much, I have learned to sit back and enjoy the small moments. When she falls asleep on my chest, I take the extra time to just stare at her and snuggle her close. I don't worry that there is laundry I need to do, or some other mundane task that can wait. She has taught me how to ask for help. I'm not a saint, and some days are harder for me to get through than others. I'm grateful to have an AMAZING husband who knows just when I need a break. My mother has come over at 1am when Gracie had been screaming for five hours straight and we were at our wits end. My inlaws love to come and snuggle her to give me an hour to take a nap when I'm out of my mind exhausted. Those breaks make me a better mom and wife. I am so grateful to get to be her mama, and I am so excited to watch her grow!

My heart is SO full and I thank God every single day for blessing me with such a perfect gift. Our life feels complete <3

The many faces of Grace

02 June 2014

Life has been so crazy around here, but we are soaking up every minute with our little love bug!

She doesn't like to sleep (much), she fusses and cries from being too gassy, but she makes the BEST faces. So today I'm sharing her cuteness with you :)

This is her startled "I pooped" face

Her scrunched up sleeping face

Her bird face ... looking for food!

A "content cause she's with her daddy" face

"Ready for a nap" face

"semi-smile cause she slept" face

Her "I don't want to wake up" face

Her newest face, cooing and talking away

Her "ready to go for a walk" face

It's crazy how much she has changed and grown in just three short weeks! I love my little nugget so much <3
