34 Weeks

31 March 2014

oh lordy I look tired! haha

How far along: 34 weeks
Gender: Girl
Weight gain: 28 lbs
Maternity clothes: well as of this week, almost nothing I own fits me so ... I'm trying to just make do with what I have since we are almost there!
Stretch marks: No
Belly button in or out: Out
Sleep: I'm up twice a night to use the bathroom, and it still takes me a good amount of time to get comfy enough to fall asleep, but it's better than it was last week!
Best moment this week: my favorite thing is feeling her get the hiccups. It reminds me there is actually a little person in there and not just an alien who likes to beat me up from the inside :)
Miss anything: being able to move faster, walking without waddling ... oh and beer!
Movement: her movements are insane. We laid in bed the other night and watch my stomach for 20 minutes. Keith swears he saw her fist punching out of my stomach. I'm telling y'all ... this kid wants OUT!
Cravings: nothing out of the norm, just trying to keep my sweets cravings in check!
Queasy or sick: knock on wood, I'm feeling pretty good!
Looking forward to: is it to soon to say "not being pregnant?" lol .... we are just so anxious to meet our little girl!

oh Target, you get me every time!

27 March 2014

I am a sucker for Target. Aren't we all though?? Lately, I've been making a lot of random trips to Target to pick up a "couple" things .... and walking out $100 poorer! oops :/

These are some of my most recent fave finds at Target!

This maxi dress is actually non-maternity, I just bought it one size up and I'm crossing my fingers I don't stretch it out, so I can wear it after she's born!
No idea what's up with my eyebrow :)

Printed Maxi Dress with 3/4 sleeves -- and a steal at $27.99!!

I had been looking for an area rug for our "playroom". This room has been next on my list to tackle, so when we saw this bad boy (and on sale!) we scooped it right up!
I love the contrast of the blue with the wood floors

I love having different banners to hang on the mantle throughout the year, and I couldn't resist this cute bunny one!

Sadly, I can't find the link for these online! They were so cute though, and only $5.99!

I also picked up this colorful yarn wreath for our front door for $12.99
Also not available online :( It was the last one in my store too, but I found it near the egg decorating supplies

I got these from the One Spot section ... the coral containers are perfect for her room, as are the kraft bins. The little lamb sippy cup ... yeah that was strictly an impulse purchase. I know baby M will not be needing a sippy cup anytime soon, but I just couldn't help myself!!

Shoes .... ahhh I have a serious shoe shopping problem. Want to know how many pairs I've purchased in the last month? Five. Here are the two most recent ones, they were buy one, get one half off so I couldn't resist!

Ankle strap flats -- I'm loving this bright color for spring!

Sam & Libby for Target flats

We had one corner of the nursery that was still empty and I knew I needed something else for storage, so we bought this cube bookshelf and the bins. It's the perfect height and size for the space.

I've also stocked up on stuff for my hospital bag -- nursing bras, tanks, pjs, ect. And of course, I always check out the baby section, especially the clearance clothing rack and I've had some good luck!

I'm starting to wonder if they offer an employee discount, because I might want to look into a part-time gig there to support my shopping habit!

Anyone else have any good Target trips lately?!

Life Lately

25 March 2014

Yesterday started my new schedule of working reduced hours at work. After going non-stop, and working sometimes 6 days a week, anywhere from 45-50 hours...this career girl needed to slow down. Last year before I got pregnant, I felt like I lived at the office. And truthfully, I loved it. I had the unique opportunity to build this position, and make it what it is now. I'm proud of it, and how hard I worked, and how much I grew professionally in the two years that I've been here.

I always said that I would always, always have a career and be a mom. Women today are taught that we can (and should!) have it all! But having/doing it all is tiring. Emotionally, physically and mentally. It requires sacrifices, compromises, being really organized and lots of coffee! Or so I'm told :)

In just a few short weeks, life as we know it will be completely turned upside down. Yes, while I will be returning to work after baby M is born, so I know I have a lot of learning to do. A lot of juggling to figure out.

So, in the meantime, I'm really relishing this new schedule. Leaving at 2, gives me time to run those couple of errands I need to do (post office, dry cleaning, ect) and still be home by 3. Where I plan to nap/rest for a couple of hours. Getting up around 5 means I can still do laundry, clean and get dinner ready before Keith gets home from work. And those two hours of rest are really what my body needs right now. I'm not handling pregnancy so well, and I need the time off my feet, just letting my body rest.

And of course, I'm cherishing moments like these:

"mama there isn't much room for me on your lap anymore!"

my favorite moments -- afternoon naps and snuggles with this little guy

Over the past week, Gunner has become more attentive of me. Wants to cuddle more, sit on my lap, and just be next to me. I think he senses that change is imminent!

33 Weeks!

24 March 2014

Tank: Old Navy Maternity // Cardigan, Express, old // Belt, Kohl's // Maxi Skirt, Motherhood Maternity

How far along:  33 weeks
Gender: Girl!
Weight gain: at my appointment this week I found out I had only gained 2 pounds in the last 2 1/2 weeks, putting me at a total of 28lbs gained.
Maternity clothes:  I'm starting to find some non-maternity things I can wear again, even just my maxi dresses from last summer have a lot of give and stretch. On the weekends I stay in my pjs as much as possible, and during the week when I'm at work it's all about comfort.
Stretch marks: Still none ...
Belly button in or out: Out
Sleep: is pretty bad at this point. I can't breathe half the time, and I can't get comfortable, so it takes me hours of tossing and turning before I can finally fall asleep!
Best moment this week: finally finished the "thank-you" cards from our shower, and started working on the playroom!
Miss anything: breathing normally and walking without waddling :)
Movement:  still pretty active, her movements are more like jabs and punches, than soft little kicks haha
Cravings: Not really craving much of anything these days since my stomach is now the size of a walnut :)
Queasy or sick: I feel like I might be battling a cold, Keith has had one the past 3 or 4 days, and I'm hoping not to catch it, but I've been a little congested and had a sore throat so who knows?
Looking forward to: Keith's birthday is coming up in a couple weeks, and I'm excited to decorate for spring/Easter. Starting to wonder if Easter might be her first holiday???

I had my bi-weekly check in on Thursday with my midwife. I had been having lots of pain, lots of pressure and cramping and my BH contractions had definitely kicked up a notch. We wanted to make sure that I wasn't dilating or in pre-term labor, thankfully I am neither! She did say that baby girl is completely out of room. Her head is very, very low and her little feet are indeed up under my rib cage. It doesn't seem likely that I'll make it to 40 weeks since she really has no more room to grow! My midwife also put me on reduced hours at work, so I am now working 8am-2pm, M-F. Truthfully, even though losing out on the money is tough, I am grateful. I need those extra couple of hours to rest and take care of myself and baby girl, so that she can keep cooking for a few more weeks.

the most ridiculous maternity item

22 March 2014

The market on maternity gear is a real interesting one, let me tell you. There are things you need, things that you think you need, things that make your life easier, and things that just make you scratch your head and wonder who the heck came up with that idea!

Yesterday, while browsing Target's website looking for nursing tanks and bras (very exciting, I know!) I came across this gem:

Miss Oops "Popper Stopper" via Target

As someone's who's had an "outie" since about 20 weeks, I found this little "popper stopper" to be incredibly comical. I think it's kind of cute that my belly button sticks out through all my tops. And yeah, sure it's a little bit uncomfortable if I brush up against a sink, or my desk at work, but I would never buy what is essentially a Band-Aid, to stick it back in! It's one of those weird pregnancy things that you just embrace and learn to live with, amiright?

In a pinch, I have a seamless maternity tank (also from Target) that works perfectly to conceal my little "outie", if I need to!

So tell me .... what ridiculous maternity/pregnancy products have you seen?

What's in a Name: Part One

21 March 2014

For some people I know, it seems that naming their children comes easily. It's a name they've loved forever, it's a family name, it's just something that they knew would fit.

Other people are more indecisive. Their unborn children go unnamed most of the pregnancy, and the parents bring their top contenders into the delivery room. They want to see what their child "looks" like, meet them first - and then decide.

Some people ask/tell everyone they meet their child's name, or possible names. They ask opinions. Ask for suggestions. And everyone has an opinion :)

Here is a little backstory to how we came up with a name for little baby M!

1. I told my husband that I didn't want to discuss names with anyone else, as I didn't want anyone else influencing us or "naming" her. I'm weird like that I guess, but I wanted her name to be one that WE chose.

2. My whole life, I had been in love with the name Riley Jane. I was convinced that this would one day be my daughter's name. I was so fiercely protective of it, that every time a friend got pregnant, I would pray that they wouldn't choose MY name! But a funny thing happens to you when you get pregnant.... the things you thought you loved and thought you wanted, well they sometimes change. Now, as much as I still loved the name, it just didn't seem right. It was too predictable. I wanted to surprise people. I wanted a name for this baby, not a baby for the name we used to love.

3. We wanted something traditional, but still girlie. Something with a cute nickname, and that flowed well with her incredibly long Hawaiian middle name and our Irish/Scottish last name :) A name that had meaning, and was a name we could be proud to call our daughter.

It took awhile. She was nameless for the first five months. We sifted through baby name apps, made lists, paid attention to characters in books, TV shows and movies. Sometime in November, we cautiously made a choice, and decided to try it out for a few weeks. My husband loved the name, but it didn't feel right to me. I tried calling her it, referring to her as it and it just felt wrong somehow.

Then one day, I was driving home from work and listening to the radio. A song came on, and as I listened to the lyrics, I burst into tears. All of a sudden, at 5:15 on a Friday afternoon, her name came to me. And as soon as I knew it, I really knew it.

Keith got home that night, and I tearfully told him I had changed our daughter's name! He was a little confused at first as I was crying and laughing at the same time, and pretty soon he was laughing with me on how ridiculous this whole scene looked.  Being the good man that he is, he of course was not going to tell his crying, emotional, pregnant wife "no"! To be fair, her name is a name that he actually suggested about 5 or 6 weeks prior, and while I liked it then, it didn't really stick out to me until that day.

I think that people will be pleasantly surprised by our choice. It's nothing fancy or crazy, and it's a name I'm sure everyone has heard before. But that's okay with me. Her name truly does fit, and means so much to us, and I cannot wait until she is born so that we can finally share it with the world!

*stay tuned for Part 2 after she is born!*

Oh Happy Day!

20 March 2014

I don't know about you, but this has seriously been the longest.winter.ever. I live in New England. I know cold and snow, and what months of brutal weather feels like. But this winter just dragged on and on. I'd also love to not continue paying a $500/month oil bill because it's so cold in our house!

So even though today is still overcast, a little rainy and temps are in the high 30's, I'm grateful that it is technically SPRING. Let's hope that Mother Nature got the memo!

Oh Phil .... you lied to us!!

I mean .... it can't stay cold forever can it ???

St. Patrick's Day

18 March 2014

I hope that you had a wonderful St. Paddys' Day! Ours was much more low-key than in previous years, I guess being 33 weeks pregnant will do that to you! But I still wanted to be celebrate, so I made sure to wear green, do a new chalkboard sign and come up with a festive dinner.

All decked out in green!!

Lucky Charm pancakes!

Complete with green sugar sprinkles of course

My dinner .... I had to get green fruit!

And for the hubs, a few more things of "substance" :)

Would you believe that the grocery store was out of green food coloring when I went last night?? Yes? Well, I guess it is my fault for waiting until 5:30pm ON St. Patrick's Day to try to find some :) I had wanted to make green pancakes, but settled for this instead. I need to remember to buy some and hang onto it throughout the year. It will probably come in handy around Christmas!

I didn't grow up celebrating holidays, so a lot of this stuff is really new (and so much fun!) for me. I cannot wait to celebrate holidays with baby girl and start our own new traditions!

32 Week Bumpdate

17 March 2014

Shirt, Motherhood for Macy's

How far along:  32 weeks
Gender: Girl!
Weight gain: Ugh, more than I would like ... almost 30lbs now!
Maternity clothes:  Oh yes, and a lot of maternity things that I thought would "grow" with me are too small! I only have a couple pairs of pants that fit, and most of my T's are too short haha
Stretch marks: No
Belly button in or out: Out
Sleep: It's been MUCH better this week, thank the Lord!
Best moment this week: Finishing her nursery? You can see a sneak peek in the photo above, and I am so in love with how it turned out :)
Miss anything: At this point, I feel like it's just about survival. So while I miss a lot of things, I know we're in the home stretch and I 'm just trying to stay as comfortable and positive as I can. But what I would give for a margarita .....
Movement: we've entered an entirely new territory of movement here folks. I really think she is out of room, because her feet are usually snuggled right under my rib cage, and she loves to headbutt me in the bladder, while at the same time stretching her arms out. Also, I'm convinced she's trying to get out through my belly button! I feel the hardest jabs and kicks right there, and I can't figure out what the heck she is doing!
Cravings: Nothing out of the norm, and truthfully eating isn't as much fun as it used to be! Since she has no more room, that means I barely have room to eat a normal sized meal! I usually have one decent meal at lunch, and then snack the rest of the day. Trying to eat too much now results in horrible heartburn and an overall feeling of "mehhhh" that lasts for hours.
Queasy or sick: The only time I feel queasy is when I eat too much! I got the dreaded stomach bug again this past week, soooo not fun.
Looking forward to: March feels like such a never-ending month, and it's still winter-weather-cold so to be honest, I just want it to be April and for the temps to stay above 40 degrees!

A few photos from this week:

We've made the decision to cloth diaper, and I am SO excited about it! Here is half of our stash, I will be doing a post very soon!

I bought her the cutest, tiniest little Mocs from mocsbyrobin and I am so in love with them! Depending on how small she is, she may wear these home from the hospital!

My sister knows how much we are Pats fan in this house, so she had these made from Etsy and sent to our house. LOVE all of them, and I can't wait for football season for her to wear them!

And then you have MY obsession with all things Kardashian! So when their new line of baby girls clothes was released Saturday, you bet I was there! I scooped up this adorable outfit for her to wear next spring. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I hope that y'all had a fabulous week and are enjoying a Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Weekly Eats

16 March 2014

Last week's meal planning was definitely a success! I spent a little more at the grocery store than I had planned, but we stuck to our meal ideas, and it made my life so.much.easier!

We both had the stomach bug last week, so there were two nights we had chicken soup. Since I still have the ingredients for chicken teriyaki, I moved that meal into this upcoming week. Friday night we are having company, so I'm planning on just ordering out for dinner.

Mon // Tues // Wed // Thur // Sat // Sun

My enchilada recipe is one I kind of just made up in my head and throw together. I use ground turkey (sauteed with garlic, and lots of taco-type seasonings) and I make my own enchilada sauce. Once both are ready, I mix them together and fill a bunch of tortillas. Smother them shredded cheese and more enchilada sauce and bake until bubbly. Easy peasy! I did link a similar variation above, I typically serve them with black beans and corn on the side, with rice.

My sides are pretty simple this week .... steamed broccoli and sauted green beans, some mashed potatoes, maybe some crunchy garlic bread with our soup! Mmm mmm.

On that note, Keith and I are off to enjoy this sunny Sunday and grab some lunch. It's become our weekly Sunday lunch date, and it's nice to get out of the house and do something :)

Sweet Baby Girl's Shower

14 March 2014

Last Saturday, March 8, our families hosted our baby shower for little girl. It was the first nice spring day in a long time, we were so thankful for the sun shining and the mid 40's temps! My mom, Keith's mom and stepmom, our two sisters and my girlfriend Meghan all pitched in to throw us the most perfect shower. We are so blessed to have them in our lives and I can't wait for them to all love on and spoil baby M :)

Arriving at the venue!

One of my besties Meghan. Love her to pieces.

My younger sister, but you could probably already tell that :)

A close up of the tables and centerpieces

Yummy drink station

Our "onesie making" table! We chose three winners at the end, and I love that we have so many personalized onesies for her first year!

This little guy melts my heart. Baby Kenny, the sweetest and most lovable boy.

Our gift table display was so amazing! I loved the clothes line with the little outfits!

My sweet mother-in-law

Love my hubby <3

With my sister-in-law Meghan

My husband was such a champ .... he came and stayed the whole time! I think this photo should be his new Facebook profile photo haha

Our new "human size" giraffe
I love giraffes and have always said that when I had a baby, I wanted this for the nursery. My mother-in-law knew this, and bought it at a boutique in town. I'm so excited to finally have it! Hopefully it doesn't scare the baby :)

We were so blessed by all our friends and family who came to celebrate with us, and who sent us gifts. We were completely blown away by people's generosity, and there are very few things that we still need to pick up for the baby. She received more clothes and shoes than she will probably ever be able to use, but that's ok with me because she will be the best dressed baby in town!

Her glider was delivered today, so as soon as we set it up I promise I will do a nursery tour post! I am so excited to share the final results :) I also promise to do a registry recap on the things we chose and registered for, and why!

31 Week Bumpdate!

11 March 2014

How far along: 31 weeks
Gender: Girl
Weight gain: 26 lbs.
Maternity clothes: I am so grateful for slightly warmer temps, since I'm much more comfortable in my maternity maxi dresses and skirts!
Stretch marks: Nope ... still keeping my fingers crossed!
Belly button in or out: Out
Sleep: Still about the same, some nights are better than others.
Best moment this week: our baby shower! little baby M is SO spoiled already, and we are so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family
Miss anything: being able to breathe! Being anemic apparently affects your blood flow, which is why I'm more tired than normal and experiencing shortness of breath. I'm taking an iron supplement, so I'm hoping that it starts working soon.
Movement: still SO much movement, but it is different than before, probably because she's getting bigger! Now instead of little jabs or kicks, they are whole body movements. She also seems to have found my ribs and also likes to press down on my bladder at the same time :)
Cravings: I am still loving anything sweet and lots of fruit. Also still obsessed with "clean" smells and anything citrus. You should have seen me at Target smelling all the different cleaners last week before finding a few that did the trick. So yes, that also means that I am still on a cleaning rampage!
Queasy or sick: I had the nasty bug that is going around, and was out of work part of Thur and Fri. Yuck. Nothing like being pregnant and puking :(
Looking forward to: more and more spring weather, it means we are getting that much closer to meeting baby girl!

I hope y'all are having an awesome week!!

Getting Organized: Meal Planning

09 March 2014

You could say that I am in FULL-blown nesting mode. I am obsessed with cleaning, organizing, cleaning some more and anything scented that smells "clean". I am a mad woman.

For example, in just the past few days, I've tackled cleaning my car; organizing our cleaning cabinet; coming up with a new mail organization system; and baby girl's room is 110% done. Not to mention my house is spotless because I feel the need to clean every.single.day. Where I'm getting the energy to do this is beyond me.

Today, I decided I wanted to try meal planning again. In cleaning out my pantry last week (oh yeah, forgot to mention that one), I was blown away at how much food I have in my pantry and freezer. So I decided not to grocery shop and instead we had a weeks' worth of meals just by using up what we already had on hand. I think sometimes I go to the store without much of a plan and just buy random things. Then I run out of staples and go back to the store. Then I get a random craving, and send Keith :) I would say I probably go three times a week! WAY too many trips to the store. So, instead I'm going to take a half hour on Sundays to plan our dinners for the week and then make ONE trip to the store that day.

I'm also giving myself a challenge of only spending $50 on this trip. If I plan my meals out smartly, I should be able to use everything by the end of the week. Each meal should also make enough leftovers for me to take to lunch the next day, and then I only have to purchase breakfasts and snacks. We are fortunate that Keith's company caters his lunch every day, and they have a full kitchen so he grabs breakfast and snacks there. It definitely saves us a lot of money, since the boy does not like leftovers lol.

Here is our menu for this week!

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday/Sunday

I've made all these recipes before and I'm hoping to have four weeks of meals we love, and be able to rotate them in and out depending on our moods. Gotta love Pinterest for the new ideas :)

I honestly think that this will simplify our lives, solve the constant "what's for dinner" question and free up more time and money. I also think that this will help keep us eating healthy and on budget once baby girl gets here.

Anyone else meal plan? Any tips for me or favorite recipes you care to share?
